Tack Room: Hey, maybe you CAN make ’em drink
The Horse Quencher just might hit the spot ...
“You lead ’em to water. We’ll make ’em drink.” That’s what the logo claims on a new line of flavorings designed to make your horse drink more water.
Horse Quencher, a flavored powder formulated by a New Jersey company, is made of natural grains and flavorings that should entice most horses to dive right in, according to the company’s Web site.

The flavorings — apple, peppermint, root beer and butterscotch — come in single-serving packets or a 2-1/2-pound bucket. One scoop added to a gallon of water should make it tasty enough for most horses, but fussy animals might require a stronger concentration.
The product is formulated for performance horses that require deep hydration for long rides and strenuous competitions. “Now you can entice your horse to drink a bucket of water whenever you want,” says the publicity.
Weather changes, minor illnesses, trailer stress and improper feed are among the many reasons a horse might not drink enough. So keep in mind, the Horse Quencher folks say, that proper hydration is the first line of defense against minor problems turning into a crisis.
A bucket of Horse Quencher costs around $26 at select farm and feed stores throughout Central Washington. You can also get more information on the product, or place an order, by visiting www.horsequencher.com.
